Nicaragua Medical Missions Team Trip
Trip Description
Situated on both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, Nicaragua boasts some of the most astounding volcanoes, pristine lakes, exquisite beaches, and impressive mountains of the Americas. Despite its natural beauty, “The Land of Lakes and Volcanoes” has also suffered much civil unrest, corruption, and natural disasters over the past several decades to now be recognized as the second poorest country in the western hemisphere. The poverty, hardships, and instability are great, but there’s a wide-open door to sharing the Gospel with the people.
ABWE’s mission is to fulfill the Great Commission by multiplying leaders, churches, and missions movements among every people. Therefore, it is always our intention to provide clinical care and evangelism through the local churches. In cooperation with local pastors, we will be conducting basic medical clinics alongside church members to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the Nicaraguans. Non-medical participants may help in triage, taking patient histories, working in the pharmacy, sharing the Gospel, or even children’s ministry, depending upon the number of trip members.
The team can be a balance of medical and non-medical personnel. The ideal number ranges from 3-12 members. It’s necessary to have at least 2 medical providers who are able to treat patients (physician, PA, or NP, for example) and at least 1 nurse.
Licensed medical professionals need to submit notarized copies of their license, diploma, and CV at least 3 months before the trip dates.
Ministry Support Funds: $1,500/per participant
Ministry support funds cover all local travel, accommodations, meals, and medical supplies used throughout the trip. Instructions on how to submit the funds and the due date will be emailed to the team. These funds may be submitted by the team participant or by others on their behalf.
Each participant is responsible for purchasing their own airfare, which typically ranges from $700 to $1,300. Travel information will be provided by the team leader to ensure everyone on the team arrives at the same time in the country of destination.
Miscellaneous Expenses: $110-$200
All first-time healthcare team trip participants must complete specific online training ($75) and each participant must purchase team specific travel/emergency insurance ($25) through ABWE. Instructions to complete the training and secure insurance will be given once trip assignment has been made. Other miscellaneous expenses may include routine vaccines and/or specific vaccinations dependent on country requirements. A $10 visa is paid for upon entry to the country. Special instructions for Nicaragua will be given to team members by the team leader.
The Impact
Jesus met the physical and spiritual needs of the people with whom He interacted some 2000 years ago. In our nearly 100 years of ministry, we have seen compassionate medical care soften hearts to hear the message of the gospel, changing lives for today and eternity. We’d love for you to have the opportunity to join the work God is doing in Nicaragua.
