Uruguay
The Spiritual Need in Uruguay
Uruguay is the smallest continental South American country in terms of population (about 3.3 million) and second-smallest in terms of land area. Its low-lying rolling hills and many rivers make it a fertile environment for agriculture and renewable energy, providing stable resources and industrial opportunity for its people.
Uruguay is one of the most socially advanced countries in Latin America, and it is also considered to be the most secular. Church and state have been entirely separated since the early 1900s, and as many of 25% of Uruguayans adhere to no religion. While Roman Catholicism is the most-practiced religion in the country, just seven percent of the population are evangelical believers. Uruguay enjoys economic freedom, relative stability, peace, and safety, but it is considered the least-evangelized country in South America and is in desperate need of the life-giving hope of the gospel.
ABWE in Uruguay
While ABWE does not have a presence in Uruguay, we desire to open this field with a team of church planters who will train and partner with local leaders and ministries to share the gospel and grow a passion for missions. We continue to evaluate partnership and ministry opportunities with the hope of building relationships with Uruguayan believers and expanding their efforts in evangelism. We have a burden for training national workers for full-time ministry, with the ultimate vision of seeing South America grow into a launching pad for worldwide missions.
The people of Uruguay need to know the truth of God’s love and salvation. Will you prayerfully consider joining us so we can reach more Uruguayans for Christ?
