The Spiritual Need in the Czech Republic

Statistics show that the Czech Republic is the most non-religious nation in the world today. In fact, it is the most atheistic, with 84 percent of the population denying the existence of God. Christians represent less than 0.8 percent of the population, and there are still many villages throughout the country with no evangelical witness.

Today, the Czech Republic has a total of 28 pastors for its 36 Baptist churches. For many years, they had no Czech-speaking Baptist seminary to train Czech pastors.

Despite these figures, the fundamental question that so many Czechs seem to be asking is, “Who is the God that I don’t believe in?” There is a surprising openness among Czechs to discuss and ponder issues of faith and spirituality.

ABWE Canada in the Czech Republic

ABWE Canada has a small team of missionaries who are embracing a grassroots church-planting movement. Our main goal is to enable Czechs to evangelize their own country with the gospel and sustain a growing church-planting movement, in hopes that they too might be involved in worldwide evangelism.

In 2013, we opened the Tree of Life Center, which serves as a platform for engaging the community with the gospel. Programs here include English classes for all ages, outreach events, summer camps, and a family Bible hour.

We have a window of opportunity to answer questions and amplify the voice of God, while drawing Czechs to Him. We need experienced and well-trained church planters, pastors, theological educators, office managers, English teachers, Missionary Kid (MK) teachers, youth and children’s workers, musicians, and dedicated evangelists to help us with this mission.
