COUNTRY
Ecuador and ABWE Canada
“We are constantly amazed at what God is doing in Ecuador. People say He opens doors, but in Ecuador, we see Him knocking down WALLS. It is a great joy to be a part of what He is doing in this country.”
– Jeff and Deanne Davoll, Guayaquil, Ecuador
The Spiritual Need in Ecuador
Ecuador is a small nation filled with incredible diversity. Within hours you can travel from Andean peaks to the deep Amazon jungle or from the Pacific coast to thriving metropolitan cities. Ecuador’s people are as diverse as the countryside. Over 65 percent of the total population is made of Mestizos, the mixed descendants of Spanish colonists and indigenous Indians, and 25 percent are from various indigenous Indian groups that still hold to the dress and culture of their forefathers. Nonetheless, 95 percent of the population claims to be Catholic and less than three percent follow different forms of Protestantism. However, there is great need for sound Biblical teaching and church planting here.
Ecuador is rich in culture and missionary history, yet it is has the slowest growing evangelical church on the continent. For the first time in years, many people are beginning to question the religion of their forefathers and seek answers.
Ecuador has also repeatedly been chosen as a top destination for those relocating overseas. Ecuador uses the American dollar, has open religious freedom, and has a receptive culture where lifelong friendships are easily made.
ABWE Canada in Ecuador
ABWE Canada missionaries first entered Ecuador in 2005. Today, our main ministry hubs are located in Quito, the capital, and Guayaquil, the major industrial center and the largest city. It is ABWE Canada’s desire for our missionaries to expand beyond these cities and become beacons of truth throughout this country.
Our growing team is seeking dedicated disciples to partner with national believers in reaching a larger population. Specifically, our ministry work lies in church planting and partnering, medical ministry, police ministry, and sports ministry. We need individuals who can help teach and train local leaders. We need physicians and nurses who can serve in medical clinics in underserved villages. Our goal is to one day open a crisis pregnancy center in an urban location. We also strive to provide evangelism and discipleship to officers and their families, as well as reach individuals, young and old, through sports. Soccer is the sport of choice here. We would like to reach more individuals through creative sports programs like outreach events, training camps, and in school programs.
There is great opportunity to share hope in this small country. God’s plan for Ecuador continues to provide many open doors.
