Find Your Pathway with ABWE Canada

Whether you’re in school, looking to explore missions, or ready to serve for the long-term, our six pathways can help you find your fit on the mission field.

Long-Term

“I know I want to be a career missionary.”

More than 4 years

The long-term pathway is for people who have recognized a clear calling to career missions and are sent by their church to serve until the task is complete, engaged in evangelism, discipleship, and church planting on a team in a lead or support role.

Learn More

Long-term missionaries are able to learn the language, get to know the culture, and build strong relationships that can change lives for eternity. It is not without hard work and challenges, but as a long-term missionary, you will be blessed with more opportunities to see your dedication make an impact. And ABWE Canada and your church will be right beside you the entire time — making sure that you have the support you need to fulfill God’s calling on your life.

Wherever you are right now, whatever your experience or education level, we provide the training and resources you need to succeed. We’d love to speak with you about how our beliefs and vision align with your passion and how we can work together to reach the world for Christ.

Mid-Term

“I want a serious apprenticeship experience, to see if long-term is right for me.”

About 1-4 years

Mid-term is designed for people desiring an apprenticeship experience or seeking to complete a limited duration assignment who are serious about missions and may be open to long-term service but may not have determined their long-term calling.

Associate

I’m self-funded and I want to serve alongside a missionary team.”

More than 1 year

The associate pathway is for people serving long-term or mid-term who have a clear calling to missionary work as part of a church-planting team, affirmed by their church, and meet the standard ABWE Canada mid-term or long-term missionary requirements, but who need little or no financial support or employment status. This could include tentmakers, business as missions (BAM), itinerant theological educators, retirees, and more.

Short-Term

“I want to see if missions is right for me.”

About 2 months – 1 year

Our Short-Term path is for people who want to meet a particular, temporary need on the field or explore their fit for missions—supporting the church-planting team on the ground.

If you’re not sure if long-term missions is right for you or if you’re not able to commit to a career in missions right now, our short-term program is for you. This program is designed for those who want to explore or confirm God’s call into full-time missions by spending less than one year with one of our long-term field teams.

Through this experience, you will adapt to a new culture, become a valuable member of a missions team, and see how your gifts can be used on the mission field. While many have gone on to long-term service, all of our short-term missionaries have come away with a better understanding of how God can use them to bless others, and we can’t wait to see how God uses you and your unique gifts.

Wherever you are right now, whatever your experience or education level, we provide the training and resources you need to succeed. We’d love to speak with you about how our beliefs and vision align with your passion and how we can work together to reach the world for Christ.

Intern

“I want to explore ministry as a current student or recent graduate.”

About 1-6 months

Our Intern path is for current students or graduates who want to pursue missions while still in school or early in their career, receive mentoring from veteran missionaries on the field, and meet tangible needs on the team.

Learn More

College is a time in your life when there are more crossroads than there are straightaways, and that is why our student program strives to provide as much information, guidance, and experience as possible to those considering a career in missions. We want to help you experience new cultures, develop impactful relationships, and learn what it means to be a part of a real missionary team that is making an eternal difference.

The Intern track is also ideal for church planting interns, pastoral residents, and other short-term workers serving in North America.

Unlike short missions trips that only offer a glimpse into the life of a missionary, ABWE Canada puts a strong emphasis on internships where you get to come alongside experienced long-term missionaries and experience what full-time missions is really like. We offer several established internship options where you can easily plug into dynamic ministries, but as we know that missions isn’t one-size-fits-all, we also offer customizable internships so that you can also experience a specific region or ministry that God has placed on your heart. Our internships last anywhere from one to six months, and in many cases can be applied toward academic credit.

In addition to our internships, we also offer student mission trips to give you a first-hand introduction to missions with ABWE Canada. These one-to-two week trips provide mission-minded students an opportunity to learn and serve together in a cross-cultural setting, and our hope is that God uses this time to open your heart missions — whether on a foreign field or in your neighborhood.

Wherever you are right now, whatever your experience or education level, we provide the training and resources you need to succeed. We’d love to speak with you about how our beliefs and vision align with your passion and how we can work together to reach the world for Christ.

Volunteer & Trips

“I want to volunteer and help wherever I can.”

1 week – 2 months

Our missions trips are for individuals or teams who have a particular ministry role to fulfill for a special event, outreach, project, or need facing a field team or missionary supported by their church.

Learn More

Volunteers come alongside our missionaries locally and around the globe to help with building projects, community service and disaster relief, media production, and more. Whether you can just come for a day to help us replace a roof, or you’re ready to spend a month overseas helping construct a new school building, we welcome your help and your willingness to serve.

Volunteers at ABWE Canada have the opportunity to serve in ministry with our field teams, and see how their specific gifts and talents can be used on the mission field. If you want to be a part of missions, but have limited availability, ABWE Canada welcomes you to serve as a volunteer to help carry the gospel forward.

Serving in any capacity, in a focused setting, is fertilizing the ground to make an eternal impact on you and those you were serving.

Wherever you are right now, whatever your experience or education level, we provide the training and resources you need to succeed. We’d love to speak with you about how our beliefs and vision align with your passion and how we can work together to reach the world for Christ.

Have questions? We would love to discuss how God is calling you.
